Our Beliefs

What We Believe

At Deception Bay Baptist Church, our beliefs are grounded in the Bible and centered on Jesus Christ. Here is a summary of what we believe:

The Bible

We believe the Bible, made up of the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God. It is our highest authority for what we believe and how we live. (2 Timothy 3:16)

God

We believe in one God who exists in three persons — the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal in power and divinity and have always existed. (Deuteronomy 6:4; John 1:1-2; Acts 5:3-4)

Creation and Humanity

We believe God created everything, including all people. Every person is made in His image, depends on Him, and is accountable to Him. (Genesis 1:1, 26–28; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16)

Sin and Separation

We believe all people have sinned, which separates us from God and others. Because of this, we all need to be made right with God. (Romans 3:23; 6:23)

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was born of the Virgin Mary and is both fully God and fully human. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day. He then ascended to Heaven and now speaks to God on our behalf. Through His death, He fully paid for our sin, offering salvation for all who believe. (John 1:1–2, 14; 1 Peter 2:23–24; Romans 10:9–10; Hebrews 4:14–16)

Salvation

We believe that everyone who repents and puts their trust in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Saviour receives forgiveness and eternal life through God’s grace. They are made right with God. (Acts 3:19)

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is at work in the world today. He shows people their need for Jesus and gives new life to those who follow Him. He lives in every believer, helps them grow to be more like Christ, and equips them to serve. (Romans 10:8–11; Titus 3:5–7; 1 Thessalonians 5:23)

Jesus’ Return and Final Judgment

We believe Jesus will personally return and will reign as Lord. There will be a final judgment of all people. (Acts 1:9–11)

Eternal Life

We believe in the resurrection of the dead. Believers will receive eternal life and joy in God’s presence. Those who reject God will face eternal separation from Him. (1 Corinthians 15:21–23; Revelation 20:11–12)

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the two special practices Jesus gave to the Church. Baptism is for believers and is usually by immersion in water. It represents our unity with Jesus in His death and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper is a way for believers to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. (Matthew 28:19–20; 26:26–28)

The Church

We believe that Jesus is the head of the Church, which is made up of all believers. As His people, we are called to grow together in faith and share the good news with the world. (Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:23; Matthew 28:19–20)
